The 3-step legal setup
Florida Statute 1002.41 lets any parent operate a home education program. The first step is filing a Notice of Intent with your county superintendent within 30 days of starting. It's a one-page form — no approval required.
Records you must keep
You are required to maintain a portfolio containing (1) a log of educational activities and (2) samples of the student's work. HomeSchool Hub's Portfolio/Evaluation Packet generator produces this automatically — including the attendance log covering the statutory 180 days.
Annual evaluation options
Every year you must submit one of five accepted evaluations. The most common: a nationally-normed standardized test (WRAT-5, IOWA, Stanford) or an evaluation by a Florida-certified teacher. A signed evaluator letter is required by August 1.
Terminating home education
If you enroll your student in a public/private school or move out of Florida, submit a written termination notice to your superintendent within 30 days.
